Participation in Catholic Special Religious Education (SRE) in the Diocese of Wollongong

The provision of SRE for Catholic students attending DEC schools in the Catholic Diocese of Wollongong is the responsibility of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) in liaison with individual parish churches, clergy and SRE volunteers (Catechists). SRE is a valuable part of the broad curriculum offered in DEC schools in NSW. The vast majority of students across NSW opt to attend SRE classes for formation in the faith tradition of their families and in ethics and moral decision making. Large numbers of students from Catholic families attend DEC schools, confident in the knowledge that they will receive access to quality faith formation from committed, practicing Catholics from local Parishes. In the Diocese of Wollongong, around 11,000 students receive this formation as part of weekly SRE classes.
